In the production process of multiple varieties and small batches, the installation, disassembly and cleaning of the workpiece, the automatic exchange of the pallet, the discharge of the chips, etc. occur frequently throughout the manufacturing process. In order to improve the processing efficiency of the machining center, high speed and high performance on the processing equipment is one aspect. Shortening the installation time and reducing the consumption are another important aspect. The fixture belongs to the tooling part of the manufacturer, which is a necessary means to ensure accurate positioning and effective processing of the parts. For the machining center, the fixture requires high positioning accuracy, convenient loading and unloading, and is suitable for rough machining, finishing, and various multi-process composite machining.

The use of domestic machining centers is still in its infancy, with more manual design and more cad/cam systems. The following is only an introduction to the use of the common positioning of the processing center:

Before determining the process plan, it is decisive to select the positioning reference reasonably to ensure the machining accuracy of the machining center and improve the application efficiency of the machining center. When selecting a positioning reference, it is necessary to fully consider the processing of each station to achieve the following three objectives:

1. The selected reference should ensure accurate workpiece positioning, convenient and quick loading and unloading, reliable clamping, and simple fixture structure.

2. The selected reference and the processing part of each size are simple to calculate, ensure the processing precision, and determine the part fixture.

In the machining center, the task of the fixture is not only to clamp the workpiece, but also to determine the origin of the workpiece programming with reference to the positioning surface in all directions. The high flexibility of the machining center requires that the fixture be more compact and simpler than the ordinary machine tool structure, the clamping action is more rapid and accurate, and the auxiliary time is minimized. In the processing machine tool, in order to properly apply the fixture, we must first have a deep understanding and mastery of the processing characteristics of the machining center, and also consider the precision, batch size, manufacturing cycle and manufacturing cost of the machined parts.

According to the characteristics of the machining center machine tools and processing needs, the commonly used fixture types are special fixtures, combination fixtures, adjustable fixtures and group fixtures. The general selection order is to use common clamps such as vise and platen screws in single-piece production. When assembling in batches, priority is given to combining fixtures. Secondly, adjustable fixtures are considered. Finally, special fixtures and group fixtures are selected. In the selection, we must consider various factors and choose the most economical and most reasonable fixture form.
